Hi James,
I have done both to cars and bikes. Without exception, the powdercoating always worked out better, and if you figure I never have to disassemble and do it again, it is actually cheaper and less hassle. Besides, if you are going to bother to have the frame blasted, cleaned, etc. why not spend the extra and finish it off right?

Subject: [FWDLK] To powder coat or not powder coat,
that is the question.....
I have my frame ready to be blasted. I have the option to have it powder
coat it for $450 or just have it blasted and do a Krylon job myself for
$175. I am creating what I plan on being a nice, frame off driver that I can
use on the weekends. No trailer queen for me. What are your thoughts on
having the frame powder coated or just me busting out the spray cans and
doing it myself? The reason I would paint it myself is the shop would charge
me $450 to have it painted, same cost as the powder coating.
I know powder coat is popular, but I am not seeing how it is that big of a
deal. It is the frame after all. Short of saying "my frame is powder coated"
and being more resistant to chips, what is the advantage? What would you do
or have you done?
