Elite Veteran Posts: 716 | Still haven't found someone that I can trust to work on Kate. And ideas welcome, would prefer someone near Annapolis or south of Annapolis. Not looking for a complete restoration or anything, just the basics for now to stop the leaks and get her to where I can drive her a bit.

Expert Posts: 4589 Location: Northern New Jersey | A friend in College Park Brought his Desoto to someone who said they could take care of his brakes. He got a call from them in the late afternoon saying they took care of his front brakes, but couldn't get the rear drums off no matter how hard they beat them with a hammer. He ended up trailering the car up here to my mechanic. He said it was worth the peace of mind. Theres a Maryland Chapter of the Desoto Club you might want to get in touch with. Maybe one of their members could make a reccomendation.

Expert Posts: 1231 Location: York County, PA | Matador 440 is on here in Beltsville, MD. If he can't do it, then maybe he knows someone who can. Other than that I recommend Anderson's Service Center in York, PA, our mechanic.

Elite Veteran Posts: 716 | 1956 Des - good call on finding a nearby MOPAR club, which I did. Good guys, but mostly modern rides, so that will make Kate stand out even more. Anyway their fearless leader and a couple of others found me someone local that they all use. Just got off the phone with him and will hopefully have Kate to him some time next month for real good once over. He's a bit excited to work on an old car for a change, which suits me just fine! Many thanks all for the input, hope your FLs are treating you well, and the warm weather is almost here!

Elite Veteran Posts: 716 | "it's car show season, I'm too busy" No kidding it's car show season. Have struck out with two semi-local mechanics. Checking one last resource before I call Anderson....because I should have to have a mechanic 110 miles from where I live.

Elite Veteran Posts: 716 | One last call I made may do the trick. Old MOPAR guy, builds/restores street cars and race cars. I'm to call him back next week and see if we can get Kate over there for him to have a look-see. I just want to drive my car. Crazy, huh?

Expert Posts: 4589 Location: Northern New Jersey | Have you called Smitty, Matador 440? He's a restoration shopping Beltsville, not close to you, but maybe he can recommend someone near Annapolis.

Elite Veteran Posts: 716 | To my surprise, Kate actually started last night. Took 20 mins of being hooked up to my other car's battery, but she finally started. I had to reposition her in the garage in case I need to push her on to the flatbed Friday. A whole pond of tranny fluid on the garage floor before I moved her.....a slow leak from somewhere near the pan. But she coughed herself to life...we'll be crusin round southern Maryland pretty soon and finally.

Elite Veteran Posts: 716 | Yeah, thanks for asking, but she's red and white and therefore a pariah here. Although, to their credit, there are a handful of guys/gals here who have embraced her nonetheless.....many thanks all, you know who you are.

Expert Posts: 4589 Location: Northern New Jersey | Allen, She's beautiful! Will you take her to Carlisle in July?
bel5758 |
| ||
Elite Veteran Posts: 716 | Not sure.....gotta factor that in with other travels. Went to Carlisle for first time last year.....mixed feelings on it. Very cool, loved the FLs, but otherwise too big and too hot. Just dunno at this point.....and frankly, ain't thinking that far ahead - can't wait for Kate's new doc to take over!

Expert Posts: 4589 Location: Northern New Jersey | To BIG??? I've never heard anybody say that about Carlisle. Hot in July??? There's a nice driving tour in Williamsport in May. I'm thinking about it. It'll still be cool.

Elite Veteran Posts: 716 | Kate still in Smitty's competent hands...detailed updates forthcoming. No Carlisle this year......getting too close to commit to it with Kate still in the hospital, so don't want to. But plenty of cruising locally in the near future, and will advise as our perimeter grows regionally. Hope everyone is enjoying their FL/other cars. Good weather for it lately.

Elite Veteran Posts: 716 | Visited Kate yesterday at the doctor's office. She looked sad, sitting back in a corner; but she was covered to help keep the shop dust off so she appreciates that. Have two new carbs to be installed soon. Carbs that fit, instead of a mismatch pair where neither fits. Pretty excited about that. Getting a five blade fan also to put more air on things. After carbs installed the doc will check a few more minor things and hopefully we'll be ready to roll. If everything goes well, she'll be discharged about the middle of August!!!
