I have also set the steering box ( it’s a power steering car ) after setting the steering box I still have an amount of play the steering wheel will free turn app 2 12ths of a turn say 12 o’clock to 2 o’clock can anyone let me know if this play is ok or excessive and if it is excessive what the fix is

It’s very likely the rubber insulator between the steering gear and the steering shaft that has crumbled and cut by the steering shaft. Very common issue….

Hi Phil,
I bought my New Yorker with - allegedly - a defective steering gear. Sven / Wizard then told me that only the rubber was defective. In reality: the rubber was almost gone. I could have used a replica rubber, but I made one myself out of nylon. So I have no steering play at all and saved 1000$.

Check the part number before you buy, there are two different lengths of the insulator, a short and a long. The locator is at a different height.
