RE: [Chrysler300] Speedometer cable lubricant

The issue of speedometer cable lubrication has been discussed before within this group and it seems to be usual with any lubrication talk that there is no universally accepted method.  I personally believe that the only real solution for long-term good use of the cable is to remove the cable from its housing every 10 years or so for a good cleaning and re-lube.  The actual lubricant used is maybe a secondary concern.  Certainly the graphite does an adequate job of lubrication and shows excellent advantage for use in cold climates, but climatic conditions are certainly regional and therefore maybe the lubricant used should be chosen on that basis.

Most of my life has been spent living on the east coast of Florida where temperatures are moderate, prevailing winds are light from our southeast over the Atlantic Ocean's gulfstream, and humidity is almost always very high.  A condition that I've always had to deal with is corrosion.  Graphite offers no protection from that so I don't consider it the best lubricant for my use.  Many of the greases will eventually harden and cake with long-term exposure to high temperature and air.  My procedure for lubricating these flexible cables is to put a good quality multi-purpose grease (any brand) in a small funnel and then draw that cable through the funnel to apply the grease, then be sure that the grease is evenly spread as you wipe away the excess.  Again I think that periodic maintenance is the real key.
