As an aside, fitting wheel rims with a greater offset (making the track
wider) will increase the steering effort as the car is raised when the
wheels are turned. This gives both a more firm feel to the power steering
and makes the car track straighter (less wander). I had this set up on my
71 power steer Valiant and it improved the overall feel of the car without
making it ?heavy?.
I have fitted Australian 6 ½? Valiant sports rims to my 300C increasing the
track by one inch because they are a strong design, take the original hub
caps and are easier to get over here than the originals. An added bonus is
the brake drums are exposed to the air by an extra half inch. Yet to drive
it though, so I can?t give a final judgement.
I?m not suggesting people should change their rims but don?t be concerned
about going over the original track width by an inch or so.
All the best
Henry
