{Chrysler 300} 300F trunk “Mystery Chain”

Folks

This is attached to the base of the lower trunk latch frame and I have no clue as to its purpose, beyond some personal application the first owner had in the dim past of the ‘60’s. 

Hence, any idea if this would have been a factory item and what this would have been used for? Weird, but maybe there’s a perfectly logical explanation….!
