John, thanks for sending. Great article! Answers a question that I pondered a bit on this server awhile back - re. the headers.
The photo clearly shows that 63-64 J/RamK style exhaust headers were used on the '62 405 HP package, with the exhaust heat blocked off (i.e. no heat pipes) so that water heat could be used on the rams. This makes sense because '62 was a short wheelbase car. The 60-61 exhaust headers differed in style, were thicker, and probably just wouldn't fit a short wheelbase 300 (especially driver's side - would not clear steering box or torsion bar). Using the 63-64 headers, why didn't they just use exhaust heat for the rams rather than water heat? Maybe because it sounds like they wanted the ability to "turn the heat off" for racing, and they simply shut off the water flow to the rams.
Short rams have one size as far as I know. There were exhaust heated (J/ramK) and water heated ('60 300 F Special, '61 400HP G, and '62 405HP).
