I took off all the stainless trim off the door panels in the last few days. I always hate doing that as those little fold over tabs tend to break off.
I tried something different this time. I used my Weller soldering gun and an instant read kitchen thermometer and heated the tab up to 170F. I then proceeded to bend it up. I did them all without any of them breaking.
I suspect that the heat caused the molecules to move without crystallizing and breaking. At 170F I do not think it will mess with the room temperature metallurgy. I will also heat them when I push them back down once the panels are recovered.
I wanted to let folks know that it worked.
Best, James
