Re: {Chrysler 300} 1961 300 G Steering column & horn

Please make sure to remove the turn signal canceling, and horn roller before starting any column repairs. Rick

Allan I had the same problem on my g when we got it.  I made a tool out of pvc pipe to push the column down and pull the shaft up at the same time to enable me to get the snap ring in.   I also stacked the washers and used the nut to get the pull and push I needed to expose the groove for the snap ring.  Check out the pics.  Thanks mike

Hi Everyone,
I could use some help with this steering column and horn.
I tried to remove the steering wheel and now the steering column has quite a bit of play in it - both side to side as well as up and down.  It seems like something like a retaining ring or something has let go within the column itself.  We went thru the service and parts manuals, but did not see any reference to the inside of the column.  Also, the horn does not work.  (Just like the charger and the cuda when I got them.  Even had to take my 2023 Hyundia Elantra in for horn repair this last summer!!)

I am not sure if this car is going to need a rebuilt steering box.

Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.
Thanks, Allan Zolis
