This fall I showed my F at the Audrain concours in Rhode Island.
Jay Leno came over and told me the same thing - he uses Marvel Mystery oil in his G. Sent from my iPhone On Jan 6, 2026, at 9:57 PM, 'Noel Hastalis' via Chrysler 300 Club International <chrysler-300-club-international@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote:
Danny, My F motor - original block - has been rebuilt with hardened valve seats so I don’t use a lead additive. I do add a few ounces of Marvel Mystery Oil with every fill-up. Run the highest octane available 91/93. Ethanol free gas here in the Chicago area is only a pipe dream, so only running the corn gas. I do have an electric fuel pump, that Joe Jordan installed, mounted just fore of the gas tank and that helps a lot when the car has been sitting more than three days. Otherwise, as has been said here, it takes extended cranking to fire it up. Since I bought the F 20 years ago it’s had no butterflies in the heat risers so that’s a non-issue - whether I’ve fired up the motor in 10 degree or 90 degree temps to take it out for some exercise. Certainly takes a little longer to warm it up when the temps are sub freezing.

p.s. I started adding the Marvel Mystery Oil over 10 years ago after meeting a fellow displaying an immaculate black 300-G coupe at Iola, who highly recommend recommended it. I’ve never seen his G since. His business was building diesel engines of all sizes and said he adds Marvel to every motor. You may drive it around the world and back with no lead and no problem. Does Noel use lead in his F?

Don’t want to start a big back and forth but I have one of “ those” questions. I have a 63 non letter 383. I have been running a lead additive as I’m not sure if Chrysler was using hardened valve seats in 63. I have heard yes and no. It’s kind of a pain and getting expensive as I do drive the car quite a bit. Some of you gurus: do I need to run the lead additive? It has 93,000 original miles and never been out of the car.
