[Chrysler300] Drive Shaft Boot - reply

Gil, Matt and Jennie, et al

Original boots lasted for decades - I am still using some driveshafts that
have their original boots on 'em. A new boot should last for years.

I have had back luck replacing boots without dismantling the front trunion;
it seems that, by forcing the boot thru the housing past the cross-piece,
that the new boot might get stressed / scarred / gashed in some way or
other. Two boots installed that way failed pretty quick.

I now send out the driveshaft to my local driveshaft shop, which has the
special tools needed to press out the cross-piece, install the new boot, and
reinstall the cross-piece, having it perfectly centered once again. Having
done it that way, I have not experienced a single boot failure since.

I was not aware that there were various quality rubber boots...
