Re: [Chrysler300] Dry Lake Racing

I'd definitely recommend latching/securing the hood down better, when I had
my C up to reasonable speed, around 115mph the hood started to "balloon" up,
real scary!!

True story.......went on a local hotrod run recently , took friends '65
Corvette with a fairly serious powerhouse in it.Also on the outing was a '56
DeSoto "modified" to 300 like specs, 392 hemi, dual carbs, full leather
interior, nice car, anyway.....the run started out fairly quietly as we
headed out of town but once on the country roads the speed and car to car
gaps increased. It so happened that the DeSoto was behind us, down shifted
the Vette(4-speed), started to scream out the side pipes, we hit 100mph,
looked out the back window, heck that old DeSoto was still there. I had
great joy in informing my friend of this, he put the hammer down further, I
watched his speedo hit 115mph but his back window was still full of Desoto!
We ran out of road and we eased off....but it sure made my day!

So, my question to the group:

Anybody every done this with a lettercar? If so, please share the
experience.

There's not much chance for all out top end crusing here in Ohio.
Although I've had the 300C to 115 or so (indicated MPH probably reading
on the high side....) so 130 actual MPH is still a bit on around the
clock. I'm surmising though that w' the stock 3.36:1 differential, 135
- 140 MPH actual top speed is obtainable. Inside of a mile though? I
dunno. I'm looking for input here, and seriously considering taking the
Brute to the Salt Flats this fall. Any input, advise, or tall tales
would be much appreciated. Thanks everybody!

Best Regards to all,

Thomas F. Miller
