Re: [Chrysler300] 413/440 engine pre-oil?

Happy Wednesday. Mighty quiet out there. Can a 413 or 440 be primed using
the powerdrill rod-down-the-distributor method?

The trick works but the oil pump drive shaft needs to come out. I made my
pump drive from an old gear/shaft by machining off the gear teeth and
brazing on an extension shaft. Slot in pump drive shaft needs to be timed
per manual or plug wires will come up in funny orientation.

Effectiveness will be determined by the position of the camshaft which will
block oil feed to the lifters and rocker stuff.

Before I fire a fresh engine, I crank the thing with the plugs out and check
for oil pressure. Petty Enterprises cranks their race car engines before
firing for preoiling.
