390hp 300C Road test car?

Hi all

Been on holiday recently and had a little time to do some reading. One article was a road test by Tom McCahill on the 300C. He mentions his test car to be a white h/top equipped with the 390hp motor, automatic, manual windows & steering. 
I thought there were only two 390hp auto cars produced for Carl Kiekhaefer. Is this a slip up my Uncle Tom or does this car really exist/existed?
