May 17-21, 2006 Asheville where altitude affects attitude. The spring
2006 meet holds many exciting opportunities to affect your attitude.
The highlight is a one and one half hour private tour of the Biltmore
House. Located in Asheville, North Carolina is the world famous
Biltmore House and Gardens which was built by George Vanderbilt in
1895. This 250 room mansion brings the enchanting Gilded Age to life.
Most of the original furnishings are being faithfully preserved and
give the unique feeling that the family is still in residence. Filled
with the art treasures Mr. Vanderbilt collected throughout his world
travels the mansion is a museum in itself.
Biltmore House took 6 years and 1,000 men to build. With just over 4
acres of floor space it contains 250 rooms, 65 fireplaces, 43
bathrooms, 34 bedrooms, and 3 kitchens. The massive stone spiral
staircase has 102 steps and in its center suspended by a single bolt is
an iron chandelier containing 72 electric light bulbs. The Banquet
Hall is 74 feet by 42 feet and the?dinner table could seat as many as
64 guests. The meals served there were usually 8 courses and required
15 utensils per person to eat. Many features original to this home are
now incorporated into every home. www.biltmore.com/biltmore.htm
($44.00 per person; same as the general public during the day.)
On Friday, a Road Run of about 65 miles via the famous Blue Ridge
Parkway will take us to Maggie Valley and the Wheels Through Time
Museum. The museum staff is excited about displaying the 300s on their
grounds. Fifteen dollars per person provides a catered lunch on the
museum grounds and a half price admission to the museum. (Pulled BBQ
sandwich, hush puppies, baked beans, cole slaw, iced tea and sodas,
dessert. Y’all down south now.) www.blueridgeparkway.org/map6copy.htm
