[Chrysler300] New oils

My local engine rebuilder warned me about the new oils not being suitable for older high load engines, as he had read some industry bulletins on the subject. The recommendation was to use diesel engine oil as it is still capable of handling the heavy bearing and tappet loads, plus it is high in detergents. My father-in-law purchased a new ' 59 Chevy 348, and always used series 3 diesel oil in it, as he was a farmer. We have the car today, and at 205,000 original miles, the engine is still solid.

Now my problem. I just finished an engine overhaul of my 392 hemi. The temp sending unit was broken, so I matched it up with an identical one at the local NAPA store. When the key is turned "ON", the temp gauge reads normal operating temp, and as the engine warms up, it pegs out at "H", but the engine is not overheating. Is this my punishment for being a "smart-aleck" and not using "correct Chrysler parts"? Who sells the ones that work correctly?
