If it's a '53, then what's up with the 'late 53 Powerflite 2-speed transmission' ? I thought P/F didn't appear until '54 ?

In early June of this year, fellow 300 member Owen Grigg emailed me
questioning whether I knew anything about a '53 New Yorker club coupe that
had just shown up on the internet for sale. Ad text said it was a Pan Am
NYer and in storage in Michigan. I replied to OG that yes INDEED I knew of
the car as I, John Lazenby and others had researched it as best we could
nine years earlier but it then disappeared back into the woodwork. It was
BACK!
Being a very important historical Chrysler (I was to learn even more
shortly!) I told Owen to simply BUY THE CAR, right now, "git 'er done" (as
we Texans say) because this car would sell quickly to the first person who
appreciated it. I offered to leave immediately with my diesel pickup and
car trailer and get the deal bought and down to dry Texas. I got 'er done.
An assortment of details ended up with Owen graciously allowing me to
purchase the car.
For now, you can see a few pictures and read about it at:
http://www.thehemi.com/notable.php?id=011
The car is running and a great deal of elbow grease is being applied. The
engine compartment is being detailed and rechroming is in process. New
exhaust awaits. The rare disc brake system is being researched but repairs
put-off so the car will be SURE to be in attendance at Rob Kern's Fall
Chrysler 300 Intl club meeting in Lawton, Oklahoma, the end of September.
If you have read the link above, you know this car's relevance to the
development of the Chrysler 300 Letter Car series.
For good reason I have named the car "Adam". If you want to see him in
person, Adam will be in Lawton, OK, Sept. 27 - Oct. 1.
Y'all come!
