[Chrysler300] Torsion bars

While on the subject of torsion bars, could I ask about the incidence of
failure of these? I had one break on a two-year-old '61 Valiant once and
could determine the failure started at a corrosion pit where the coating had
been chipped off. Omaha salt no doubt contributed to the corrosion pit. I
was able to remove both pieces from their sockets and drive the car to the
dealer for replacement under warranty.

It was my first new car--a red two-door hardtop with a floor stick. I don't
see many Valiants around any more.

This makes sense, because as the bar twists, it must change length to some
extent.

There were also holes for cotter pins in the swingarm spindle bolt thingy.
Depending on the pin length & bend direction, it may allow more/less forward
float of the bar.

I've never seen anything suggesting torsion bars need to be all the way back
against the spring clips or that they need to be equal in position. So long
as they are in far enough to allow installation of the clip, I think they
are permitted to float anywhere within the forward / rear distance the
engineers gave them.
