6V Jump Starter the Nordic variety

As we do it in Norway:

You will get far with the large 6V battery standard in old M-F or possibly
Volvo tractors (which used 2x6V batteries), one of very few 6V still
available at Biltema (large Swedish discount store for everything
mechanical) and new oversize cables (mine are around 1 cm in diametre). That
battery comes in periodic black, is around 200Ah and fits the C-300 with a
new hold down on top. I have tried the 6V/12V variety which worked but was
expensive and unavailable outside the US. Likewise the 8V stuff I reckon.
Have not yet seen any 6V jump starting device, but am looking for it too.

And then hardcore variety when the Hemi is hot and possible with vapour
lock:

Pouring gasoline in carbs does help, if not: Jump start the car with a 12V
diesel battery and heavyweight jumper cables. To avoid melt down of battery
terminals and too much flying sparks it is possible to split the Chrysler
original negative wiring, and connect the main starter wire outside the
normal circuit with the neg from 12V (avoiding ground!), and then the
thinner stuff as original to the 6V neg terminal. Connect all pos wires
including starter relay and 12V to your pos 6V terminal, sit in and use the
key for comfortable high RPM cranking without any hazard to other equipment
than the 6V starter (which I believe it was George Riehl who once told is
about bulletproof, and just as the one found in old VWs can be used for
years in a 12V system).

Roadside without this splitting of wires it is always adviceable to have a
helping hand waiting with the 12V neg supply, and not making the final
circuit connection until after you engage the original system to reduce the
number of flying sparks.

Also have to give you the story from when I bought my C-300, and asked the
vendor if there was any special procedure when starting it. His reply:
"Nothing special, just crank for a minute, then wait a bit and crank for
another minute. Repeat as necessary". Maybe no surprise that the first items
I bought for my car was a spare 12V battery and jumper cables.

  Hi all in 300 land,

My C300 sometimes cranks pretty slow on the starter and is hard to start.
No
doubt why they changed to 12V for '56.
In pictures of other club members C300's I can see some have 8V batteries.
Anybody having good experience from these?
I have been looking for a 6V Jump Starter to have in the car as a backup
when going on trips but I can not find any other than 12 or 24V.
Is there someone out there who knows where to find one for 6 volt?

  Thanks!
