Hi Rich and all 300 Fans,  My B's, which I believe are the same as the '55s, 
have the slot to the rear.  The wide portion is forward.  My Dad's windsor, 
which I know is unaltered, with the same armrests, also has the wide part 
forward and the slot to the rear.  Hope this helps.
