[Chrysler300] Brake Master Cylinder Question

I'm changing the master cylinder on my 300F, and for some reason the brake
push rod is stuck in the piston of the old master cylinder. It twists in the
piston, but even with a significant amount of force, it won't come out.
Looking at the service manual, it seems that the push rod should just easily slip
into the piston, and not be held with anything. Has anyone else out there
had this problem? McTaggart
