RE: [Chrysler300] 300-D Body Seam Question

I may be just a little nuts on this subject, but it is a pet peeve of mine.

There is indeed a factory visible seam below the trailing end of the doors, and it's the first place I look when I'm evaluating a car.

Chryslers are notorious for rusting below the rear quarter windows down low on the rocker/quarter panel, and many times when a car is being restored, that seam gets lost in the process by being blended in with bondo or welded in and ground level.

I am always suspicious of cars that are missing this seam, as for me it is a sign of lower body rust that was repaired incorrectly.

My 60K original mile G still has its seams intact, but I was the victim of a non Chrysler specialist on my C. It is a rust free southwestern car that I stripped to bare metal to have repainted, and the body shop that painted it did me the 'favor' of blending in my seams and making them disappear. At least I have the before pictures to show the condition of that rocker area to any perspective future buyers, but you can no longer see the seams on the finished product.

The car actually looks a little better without the seam (which is just another crevice to hold dirt when trying to clean the car), but it's not correct.

Subject: [Chrysler300] 300-D Body Seam Question

I hope I'm clear on the location & position of this item:

On the rocker panels on my D, my bodyman reminded me that my car had filled vertical rocker panel seams on both sides under the trailing end of the doors.

He said he did a little research, and found pics of restored cars with and without this vertical seam filled, that would divide the rear quarter from the rocker panel under the door.

Which is correct?

Thanks,
