Hi John:
Silly me----I was looking only at the radio section! Now I know why when
Carol wants to find something, she looks for it herself. Ha. Yes, my manual
is the same as yours. Bob Jasinski also noted his manual has the RCA info,
kindly and diplomatically suggesting the possibility we might have different
versions. No, mine's the same----I just didn't look far enough. As Bob
mentioned, it is for DeSoto only, as so stated in the manual. There is certainly
no code for a record changer in the 1960 Chrysler option list. (But I
promise I will look again!)
Thanks John and Bob for the correction.
300ly, Gil

Hi Gil,
Blue and yellow 1960 manual - correct. Says "Imperial" and "Chrysler" on
the cover. The record player is covered at the very end of Group 1
(Accessories), page 33 and has the following info: Make: RCA Victor;
Model: AP-1 ; speed: 45 RPM; capacity: Fourteen 7" 45 rpm

Ron and All:
Thanks for the additional record player info. I could not remember
anything in my service manual on it, so just rechecked. It is the blue and
yellow 1960 Chrysler and Imperial manual, and mine, at least has NOTHING on
any record
player! Wonder why the difference??

Hi all, I worked in the Radio Lab at Chrysler Highland Park in 1960-61. I
can't give you any background on the Hi-Way HiFi, but I was there for the
introduction of the RCA unit. The RCA unit (45rpm with inverted spindle
which
held 10 records) was offered through the Desoto/Plymouth Dealers for the
1960
model year only. They had no corporate identification except for the RCA
logo on the front and a paper sticker on the back with a serial number and
model AP-1. RCA may have marketed them through the dealer system after
that and
I think some of the company radios were supplied with auxiliary sockets
My
Chrysler Imperial Service Manual (and Desoto) for 1960 has it listed with
seven pages of service instructions. I can not say that it was only
offered as
a dealer install, they are highlighted in a Desoto brochure for 1960.
Anyway, 300s forever, Ron Gendjar, 300F, Livonia Mi
