Mitchell Motor Parts catalog

has a holddown frame/clamp on page 34 of their catalog, page 35 of the .pdf
file.  Their catalog is a 5 MB file and will take a while to download.  Part
number 1450496 is shown for '51-'54 in their catalog and that number is
shown as proper for '55 Chryslers, also--in the 1955 Chrysler parts catalog.
But the Chrysler parts catalog lists a different part number for the
holddown for the "160 Amp" battery in Chryslers, as opposed to Part number
1450496 for the "130 Amp" battery.  The same Chrysler parts manual lists the
batteries for 1955 Chryslers as 100 Amp and 110 Amp.  Anyone with more
in-depth knowledge of which 6-Volt batteries came in which 1955 Chryslers,
please chime in.

I purchased a HD group 2 battery that is about 10 1/4" long by 6 3/4" wide
by 8" high.  The nasty old hold down frame that came with the car fit ok, as
did the somewhat nicer used replacement I found on e-Bay.  If you pop for a
new one from Mitchell or elsewhere, let us know how it is constructed,
finished, fits and works.  I hope any repros are powder coated since acid
fumes will continue to form from any lead-acid battery and eat he** out of
the clamps, nuts, bolts and frame/holddown.
