Hopefully just caused by that gunk you found.
Worst case guesses, Sloppy crank bearings -- and/or an improperly installed "oil restrictor". Thing was an inch or two in length, and the diameter of a drinking straw.
Not sure why they'd be necessary on a street motor, but some folks install these restrictor tubes in the oil passage leading up to the rockers. This restrictor thingy has two O-rings. The upper ring may bind during dry install -- then pushes back into the center area to seriously impede oil flow. The builder never noticed it, until we started over and pulled it all out.
My '56 DeS had valvetrain racket and little oiling up top on a brand-new rebuild. Cam bearings and scuff marks looked normal, so we tore-down the motor and saw improper-sized crank bearings (ugggly wear) and the wrecked restrictor. These teamed-up to starve the hyd. lifters and keep things a bit too dry. Ran terrible. With solid lifters, I never would have noticed 'til things really got trashed...
fingers crossed for you. vath

Subject: [Chrysler300] valve train oiling on my 392
ever since i first fired my hemi ive had trouble with getting oil to the
rockers. sent it back to the motor shop to re-clean the rockers. found crap in
the oil passages not blown out after the hot tank. the dino went without a
hitch but after pulling the valve covers found valves sparcely oiled. going to
have it torn down tomorow first to see if the holes in the cam bearing is lined
up in the block and possibly sending the cam out to be turned so the heads
will get oil on the whole rotation of the cam. has anyone had this problem and
what was the remedy?
