If toothpaste, the normal kind, not baking soda, leaves scratches you
are using way too much pressure or to rough a polishing cloth. I
have been using toothpaste on plastics from watch crystals to dash
lenses to small aircraft windscreens for more than 40 years. There
have been many scratches I could not remove, but have never seen any
additional scratches from the polish unless the rag was not smooth
(think old T-shirt) or the polish was allowed to dry out. Use enough
water to keep the polish liquid, don't let it dry out. It really does work.
