I, for one, haven't noticed an any particular trend for this list to go
sour. Happily, we all seem to be able to conduct ourselves in a civilized
fashion during John's unfortunate absence. As in any walk of life, there are
occasional rough patches, but we all seem able to come through OK.

I was for a time a subscriber to a boating list that had gotten completely
out of hand. Most posts seemed to be extremely abusive flames. I left in
disgust, and have since learned that it went under, and is no more. Take my
word for it, we are a really long way from that! I could hardly believe the
things that were said on that list! We must, however, be tolerant of and
considerate of others. What seems perfectly appropriate to one, may rankle another.

At least for now, I feel appropriate action would be to direct whatever
power we can toward healing John. Pray, meditate, or whatever you can toward
helping him.

That's my 2 cents worth.
