Fwd: [Chrysler300] front U-joint boot

 Hi all,

All of you that have done this at least once know those u-joint boots are such a pain to change. On one of my drivers, I took a good old used one and slit it lengthwise, slipped it over, sealed it with black 3M weatherstrip gunk, put the clamps back on and wrapped two plastic zip ties firmly around it (in the groves) to combat the centrifical force that would separate it along the slit. It lasted about 3000-4000 miles. Not bad for a bandaid fix.

The real question I have is; has anyone ever seen one that has a manufactured design like the one I described above, sans the plastic zip ties?? I HAVE a new ONE and it is slit lengthwise, (much like a constant velocity boot), and molded into it are 3 or 4 tabs with holes that are there to accept the really tiny screws and nuts that keep the boot together along the slit. Comes with new end clamps as well.

The item was in a see through plastic package and had been opened so there was no paper information as to the manufacturer. Has anyone ever seen one of these or know who manufactured them? I'd rather put 50 of these type on before having to drop the drive shaft and fight the war to get the damn thing over the ball and trunion and then through the hole!! Been there, done that.

Anyone with info on a source? I have only one that is not installed (yet).

Thanks

Hi folks,

I was under my G adjusting the emergency brake when I noticed the front U-joint boot is in the process of disintegrating. Does anyone know of a source for these? I thought I had an extra, but I can't find it. I don't think they've been available from NAPA for a while, or are they still?

John
