[Chrysler300] changing a 300C oil filter woes?

Some boring Mopar 300C filter outer seal ring mystery/question follows, so if not interested, hit delete now.

I decided to change the oil filter on my user 300C, so I first got/bought a couple from US, and I was sent genuine Mopar part No 1821552, in olive green mopar box, with larger id " L -70" above that number.

Now on my user 300C, it has larger local made engine pipes than factory, so this means (bloody mongel!!!) you cannot get out the whole cannister when you unbolt it from the engine. And despite this, feeling brave, I thought for once, today I would not only change the filter cartridge, but also the large rubber type seal ring - it well 'vulcanised' by age to the steel outer cannister lip.

Due to obviously being 'old stock', the ring included with the filters is not super soft, but it should work fine - wrong!!! , leaks oil majorly once motor started. Loosen bolt, check ring is seated under ring OK, retighten - leak just as bad, more new oil wasted !!!

By now it is getting dark outside, like my mood (it already tested earlier when I tried to start my Lamborghini and Jag XKE that have been super safe stored for last couple of years, so I have left them alone as played with more needy matters/projects, and found the petrol so crap now, neither will start, let alone run, unless new raw fuel put into carb throats (not easy on triple sidedraft SUs, and twelve Weber sidedraft throats!!) )
And on coming inside, I now notice, the outer seal rings in both identical filter boxes/filters are different !!?? - the one I used is thicker (well over double thickness), and a just smaller overall diameter, than the other wider and well thinner one, that seems identical to one that was on motor, and I had much fun while it still trapped down near where it bolts on, making sure none of old rubber remained to prevent a sound seal when new one fitted.

So finally the question - are both different large outer Mopar "L - 70" seal rings correct for 392s ??!! Because when it gets light in the morning, I will either try the other thinner one, or else hope the heat from the engine block overnight has softened/formed the thicker one so it now seals without loosing bolt again and wasting more oil trying to figure 'what the ??!" ( The thicker one seems (just) a large enough diameter, despite it not as big/wide as other type, the one previously on motor.)

Otherwise, my day driving the 300C was good - boy those drum brakes are outstanding round town, when there are no small fluid leaks that cause them to pull eratically that I think is cause of other members' 300C/D brake pull woes - that and that magnificent cast iron torqueflight that just blows traffic away as it rapid fire goes into 2nd then 3rd as that hemi makes things happen effortlessly - about an hour's 300C drive time today, I recently averaging maybe 500 semi-suburban 300C miles a week the last few of months. And yes, modern KYB front shocks are indeed also great, but I doubt modern disc brakes are needed, if one gets the 'wrong width modern wheel cylinder cup' micro leak bugs out of factory 300C drum brakes.

Help please, has Mr Mitchell sent me one filter with correct seal ring, and the second, a ringer - wrong - maybe ?!! Any 300 owners noticed if there are two different, but yet still correct outer seal rings ?

plus ps - if anybody knows/cares - with today's gasoline, why does it go off, what does it lose, or what changes, so it obviously loses it's octane rating so badly if left sit in tank for over 12-18 months?
