[Chrysler300] timing issue

my 57 has a timing issue that is puzzling to this old bird and his
semi-mechanic friends.

when i set the timing at 6 degrees BTDC it runs just fine...but when i
turn it off and try to start it, it says no way.

so, to get it to start i have to set it at about 10 degrees ATDC.

where is the problem or what am i doing wrong?

any help would truly be appreciated.

billllllllll in kennewick washington

103 degrees and hot hot hot on sunday.
rain, thunder & lightning on monday.
overcast but warm today.
