[Chrysler300] 300E grill repainting/disassembly

Anyone taken apart one of these things prior to re-painting? Any advice? 
I have detached the rivets/bolts holding the red bars to the grill 
surround, unbent the factory crinmps at the interlocking joins, and am 
trying to press out the red bars as a unit from the alluminium bars. 
Does one have to straighten out the "V" in the grill to remove the 
interlocking bars? Any experience appreciated.
