[Chrysler300] FW: 300 Series letter cars

A person from another group that I belong to sent this email to me this morning and I thought there might be some interest in hearing about racing 300L's and Imperials.

Good morning John,

I send you this privately as it relates to the 300s. It was a 1965 300L, the last real LETTER CAR built.

Back in '98 my friend and I raced at a local track in Santa Maria, California. My friend was a real Imperial fan and raced a 2 door hardtop.

I found this black 65 in a river-bottom salvage / storage lot.

This car was complete although it had been semi submerged when the river overflowed verified by all the river rocks found in the frame and other places when I examined it closer.

The guy at the yard apparently didn't know what he had as the only outward evidence of it being a letter car was the emblem in the center of the grille.

What a find! And the best of all, it was a 4 speed with the Hurst shifter.

I bought it, pulled the 413 and the trans out and went through it while my friend took the body, stripped all the non essential parts, painted and lettered it and then we had ourselves another race car.

The 300 was mine and the Imperial was his.

(It's amazing what a person can do with a good camera, I just took pictures of these 2 which are 'hanging' around the house.)

Anyways, we had a great time racing and I sure enjoyed running the old 300L.

They are all gone now but the memory lingers on.
