[Chrysler300] Chrysler 300 Tires - long winded

FYI - I just pulled my old 65 & 69 Tire Guides for sizes - info not
guaranteed, but for what its worth

1965 300 & 300L standard 8.55-14 on 5.5K wheel, Optional 8.85-14 om 6K wheel
1964 300 & 300K standard 8.25-14 on 6K wheel, Optional 8.55-14 on 6K wheel
1964 300K with RAM engine 8.55-14 on 6k wheel
1963 300 standard 8.25-14 on 6K, Optional 8.55-14 on 6K
1963 300 J and High Perf 8.45-15/6ply on 6K-15 wheel - no options
1962 300 standard 8.00-14 on 6K, Optional 8.50-14 on 6K
1962 300 H and High Perf 7.60-15/6ply on 6K-15 wheel - no options
1961 300 G 8.00-15 on 6K, optional 8.20-15 on 6K
1960 300 not listed separately - appears to be omission - later book
says same as 300 E
1959 300 E standard 9.00-14/6 ply on 6.5K, optional 9.50-14/4 ply on 6.5K
1958 300 D same as 300 E above
Sorry - thats as far back as they go.

History lesson - 1963 8.25-14 replaced 1962 8.00-14 - pretty much same
size, but new rounded shoulders. First belted tires introduced late 68
(69 model year had both belted and bias). G78-14 belted = 8.25-14 bias.

B.F.Goodrich had radials available in late 1966 but premium upgrade -
not used on Original Equipment - we put 215-14 on my Mom's 67 New Yorker
to replace 8.55-14 with less than 100 miles on car. I think first radial
OE tires 1972 or 1973?? but still letter designation i.e. GR78-14.

205-14 = GR78-14 = G78-14 = 8.25-14 = 8.00-14 - now P215/75R14;
215-14 = HR78-14 = H78-14 = 8.55-14 = 8.50-14 - now P225/75R14 if you
can find them;
225-14 = JR78-14 = J78-14 = 8.85-14 = 9.00-14, now P235/75R14;
no replacement for 9.50-14;

205-15 = G78-15 = 8.15-15 = 7.10-15 - now P215/75R15 - note there never
was an 8.25-15;
215-15 = H78-15 = 8.45-15 = 7.60-15 - now P225/75R15 - note there never
was an 8.55-15;
225-15 = J78-15 = 8.85-15 = 8.00-15 - now P235/75R15
9.00-15 = 8.20-15 - use P235/75R15;
and new 9.15-15 came in which I think was only used on Lincoln if I
remember correct

1962 first to use narrow whitewall separated from rim by black. Maybe
some minor variations in width, but no big change til 1970 & 1971 models
which had dual whitewall - 2 bands approx 3/8 inch each - then 1972 went
back to single narrow white. There were some funky triple whites used on
Lincolns and Imperials as I recall, but only available in one size each
for specific car. Also some premium tires went odd - helped to make you
feel Special - and have to buy their tires to match.

And lastly let me point out that tires kept getting wider and lower
profile, so don't expect a P215/75R14 to be as tall as an 8.00-14 - and
radials squat more at a given pressure and load so they will look even
lower - but typically the "equivalent" radials will have a greater load
capacity.
