Re: [Chrysler300] Re: just joined and sure could use your help

Thank you, Tom! I had forgotten about the RB 383 of those years. A
little confusing, but yes, there is both a low block and a raised block 383.

Guys, Don't forget about the "big block" 383 made from 59-61. They had
4.06 bore and 3.75 stroke just like the RB blocks.

Seems a lot of early 60's high perf engines came with dual points.

Bill,

Welcome. Sounds like someone swapped distributors somewhere along the line
and you eneded up with a better one! I assume it does not have a
mechanical tach drive provision (a place for a tach cable to screw into place). Not
sure if there ever was a B motor with a mechanical tach option??

Anyways, the distributor might be from a later model 383HP like a Road
Runner. I'd try a cap for a '68-'70 383 Road Runner and see if it fits.
There's probably some other trick to determine but I'm in DFW right now passing
through and this is the best I can do.

Good luck,

Richard Osborne

an abundance of knowledge available from all the members. I could sure use
some of that to help me get started with my 300. The car is in great shape
body, chrome and interior wise coming out of California for most of its
life with 76,000 original miles and all the original documentation. Needs some
mechanicals which you have to expect given its age. We're pretty sure its
the original 383 with a 2 barrel but everyone seems stumped by the fact
that it has a dual point distributor. That has led to a problem finding a
replacement cap and rotor since none of the local parts stores can tie a dual
point to the 383. I would appreciate anyone shedding some light on this.
Could also use the specs for point gap, dwell angle, timing, etc.
