[Chrysler300] What is this part?

Good evening,
I was working on my 300H today, replacing the o-ring on the transmission shift cable. The FSM says to remove the neutral safety switch and release that little spring looking thing with a screwdriver. Bull...

Anyway, I ended up draining the fluid and removing the pan. Inside, I found the usual gray grime stuck to the magnet, but the disturbing thing was what else I found. It is a steel washer, 0.5" diameter, 0.035" thick, with a keyhole slot in the center. It looks like a small version of a brake shoe retaining washer, only flat. What could this be? The car works fine, although it shifts a little too early for me. I'm wondering if this is a vital part or if I should just put it on the shelf with the other leftover parts. The fluid was a nice shade of red and does not stink, so I'm assuming everything is functioning normally.

Can anyone help me identify this part?

Also, is there an adjustment to make it shift at a higher RPM? My 64 300 shifts at all the correct fun points (chirps second gear at 3/4 throttle).

Thanks,
Mark Souders
