Does anybody know where I can get the  aluminum door thresholds for my 1958 300D?

The starter could definitely be the culprit, but before condemning it, check
your ground cable connection at the engine, new engine paint could be
supplying too much resistance which will worsen when the engine is hot.
Check any other connections just as GP.
