Two important things to remember here. When moving, the brakes cannot be good enough to stop you if the throttle is floored. Damn near guarantee that all those so called "Runaway" cars were being driven by 2 footed drivers, one on the brake and one on the gas. Panic? 1. Mash both to the floor. 2. Crash! When stopped the engine cannot be powerful enough to start it moving if the brakes are applied. Try "Line Lock", used in Drag Racing. Also, Stall Test, to see what RPM the converter locks up. Try it if you must, but it's true. Ray On Apr 22, 2010, at 12:05 PM, Richard Barber wrote: There has been lots of healthy and respectful chatter on the old problem of stopping a moving vehicle. And, it is interesting to note that the very ?highest? technology in current cars can have the same basic problem when computers take over throttling, braking and so many other tasks. That said, braking systems have been evolving for years and are responsible for a good portion of the reduction in the highway death rate.
