On the engine side of the firewall is two sheet metal screws holding the heater control valve. You will need to unscrew these two screws. Then remove the valve from the inside of the car, under the dash. You will need to remove the control cable. To get a better view, you can remove the cardboard glove box first...

  hoping there is someone who can tell me how to remove the heater control valve on a 62 sport conv. pulling the heater core out was easy but the valve is up behind the dash. Looks like it could be a real bear. wondering if there is any way to test for leaks before tackling a major project. could really use your expertise. thanks in advance.
