One more thing that can only help to free them. With your propane torch heat
the bottom edge to soften paint. Just hot, not cherry red. Also, It will
slightly expand the metal.

I had to go thru a similar procedure for my 58 Plymouth. Here are my
recommendations:

Give them a good soaking in WD-40 or similar.
Since they are delicate and will bend easily, use a plastic or small
wooden
drift. Do NOT use metal or you will kink them.
Loosen them from the LOWER lip.
Once entire lower lip has been freed, tap upward beginning at one end and
working toward the other.
