Re: [Chrysler300] 1963 300 J wannabe

The 413, 440, 426 " RB " (Raised Block) engines have an engine ID pad that is flat and horizontal. It's on the right side as you are looking at the front of the engine, in front of the intake manifold and at the rear of the water pump. If you don't see a flat, horizontal pad there you probably have a 361, 383 or 400 " B " engine.

The 361, 383 and 400 " B " engines do Not have that flat, horizontal ID pad. On those engines the ID is on the Left side as you look at the front of the engine, on the front of the block, below the cylinder head.
Also, when you look at a 361, 383, 400 block ...on the right side as you look at the front of the engine, there is NO flat Horizontal pad. There is a flat pad that is in front of the head BUT it is at an angle, following the slope of the head.

Hope this helped and not confused you.
Happy 300'ing

Just bought a rust free CA blackplate barn find. It has every option
including leather. Seller tells me it is a 413. The AC compressor hides the
engine serial number. Is there any visible proof of the cid of these RB
engines other than the engine number? This car is a survivor and just makes
me shiver with excitement should if really be a 413. The pragmatist in me
suggests it can't be but a 383, but maybe?

It will be at LSMFT....will you?
