[Chrysler300] One more hand brake question

Thanks to everyone for their replies.
I was going to replace the shoes mainly because we can't get enough adjustment from the cable on the parking brake to hold the car.....When maxed out, the shoes barely touch, and they look like they have about half of the meat left on them. So, I thought getting a new set would solve the problem, but now I am wondering if I have something else going on there. Maybe shortening the cable a bit would help?
Thanks,
Tom
