Re: [Chrysler300] LSMFT Media Frenzy

Hello, Carlton and all members:

Thanks for the response to my offer. I see the car magazines have been covered
and, most likely, solid relationships by the club with these trades have been
established over the years. Knowing how long it takes to build relationships
with the press, I'd be the last one to try and reinvent the wheel. After all, I
have 25 of them sitting in garages and don't need another one.

My offer is to engage local newspapers and TV stations. Unlike the trades, the
best time to engage the "dailies" is the day before with a good news "hook." For
example, there is one TV station in the Bay Area and newspapers in Monterey
County and Salinas the could be interested in LSMFT. It all depends on
how compelling the hook (press release)is.

Before I go any further, I think this approach should be reviewed by Club
members to determine whether or not general news on Club activities is desired
for widespread coverage amongst the public.

Best,
Ron Kurtz

Hello Ron, and all Club Members,

Your Club meet promotion team (Ray Jones, Jim Krausmann, Gloria Moon, the meet
host Larry Jett, and myself) have been busy these past few months contacting a
number of car magazines and organizations to help promote our meet. We have been
doing this for a few years now. We also attempt to contact former Club members
who reside (or at least used to reside) in the state where the meet is being
held. For our Carmel, CA meet there are/were about 300 former Club members from
CA.

The magazines we provided information to included Auto Restorer News, Old Cars
Weekly, Hemmings Classic Car, and the Hemmings On-Line news. We normally contact
and provide information to the WP Chrysler Club but Larry Jett took care of that
this time. In our meet promotion write-up we did emphasize the historic nature
of the meet with this being the first ever joint meet of the two Chrysler 300
Clubs. I’ve seen the Hemmings Classic Car meet notice and the Hemmings On-Line
meet notice but not yet the others. Recently Don Warnaar commented that he
thought the Hemmings Classic car notice was very good.

Of the former CA members we were able to reach a number of them told me they
hoped to attend the meet and some said they were interested in rejoining the
Club; we’ll see if that happens.

We are always looking for new ways and new ideas and offers of help to promote
the meets. A few times we have contacted other Mopar Clubs nearby where the meet
is held but not many folks ever attend. If there was a way to get Chrysler /
Fiat to participate that might be helpful. I am still impressed at the time Bob
Lutz arrived in his helicopter to George Riehl’s meet.

Hello, everyone:

I've been in public relations for the past 30 years and have written more than
200 press releases and conducted dozens of press interviews (print and
electronic). I would be glad to help out.

Best,

Larry and everyone else -

In honor of this historic meeting involving both 300 clubs, it would be
worth sending out a press release to the local media as well as Old Cars
Weekly, Hemmings and anyone else that might want to cover this event. It
would give our clubs some really good publicity and maybe add a few new
members as well.

Ron
