The inside of the brake cooling ducts were painted the same red/orange as the screens in the front.  It turns out that the color is very nearly an exact match for Chevy engine orange, readily available at any auto parts store.  Terry McTaggart

If you take some paint remover or lacquer thinner to them you'll find 
they can usually be made to look sharp and original - and they should 
not be painted.  I think it's actually just plastic with with a fiber 
reinforcer rather than fiberglass, and it has a kinda brownish look. 
More or less the same material as your firewall airbox.  You can repair 
any cracks with a little black or brown epoxy.
