[Chrysler300] Disc brake conversion

Niels:

On one of your previous posts your e-Mail address (Niels Hansen
<niels300g@xxxxxxxxx>) indicated that you were probably asking about a 300G.
I have not personally responded to you before but I would highly recommend
the kits produced by AAJ Brakes.

Note: They are having problems with random popups occurring on their
website and are in the process of moving to a new website. Just close the
popups to view his products. He has kits for both front and rear
applications. I don't think you will need a rear disc brake conversion kit
for your tapered axle as the front brakes provide something like 60-80
percent of your braking.

I have installed two sets of these kits on two different cars. 1962
Chrysler 300, and a 1965 Plymouth Sport Fury, with absolutely no problems
and the upgrade in performance was incredible. If I need to really apply
the brakes now, I immediately check the rear view mirror to see that modern
cars following me are not about to rear end me as they just don't believe
that such a huge, old car is capable of stopping like it does. Both of
these installations were simply a bolt on procedure. I did not have to
bend, grind or modify any suspension components and if, in the future, I
wanted to go back to the original drum brakes (if I were to sell the car and
the buyer wanted it to be absolutely original from factory) they could be
removed and the drum brakes reinstalled at any time. His kits also allow
you to use 14 inch wheels if you wanted or needed that feature. I don't
know how much, if any these components might alter your alignment but I
would recommend a re-alignment after the installation of the kit just to be
sure.

If you are seriously thinking of going this route, I would suggest that you
call Roger at AAJ brakes and talk directly with him about the shipping and
custom duties involved. The Rotors, and Calipers are quite heavy and if
they are readily available in Germany he can tell you exactly what you need
to buy so that you can check with your local Auto Parts supplier for
availability thus saving considerable costs in shipping. He has been fine
with that sort of arrangement in the past to save you some money. AAJ
Brakes is located in Portland, Oregon USA and his phone number is area code
(503) 890-1469. I am not familiar with the international code to reach the
USA from Germany but I am sure you can figure that out.

Roger is a great guy and in the past has been very helpful in talking with
me about my installation. Just try not to call him in the middle of the
night in Oregon.

Whatever route you decide to go with your Disc Brake project, good luck,

Big John Mc Adams

(In Southern California)

I forgot to mention that I own a 1961 300G HTC.
Thanks, Niels
