Re. the 235/75R15  -  I ordered Diamond Backs in September.  The tire they
used is called the Fury (not a Plymouth) and it is made by Cooper under
their private label El Dorado. This may be different now as it depends on
what tire they can get.  I had them made with a 1 and 1/8" whitewall for my
J.  Yes, they were expensive.  That said, they are excellent!   They arrived
in two weeks; they were perhaps only a month old based on the DOT date code;
they were cosmetically flawless and they handle superbly.  They are first
quality tires made in the USA.  You get what you pay for.  American Classics
are for show not for go.  For your G, I would get the correct ww width if I
were you (about 3").

Diamond Back offers the 235R75-15 Cooper with a wide white (you specify the
width) that they vulcanize on. At $199 each plus $128 freight to me, then
mounting and balancing when I get them, is pushing $1000. The American
Classic would be $200 less. You are basically paying them $125/tire to put
on a wider whitewall, and they cover any warranty, not Cooper.

I did speak with Coker on their warranty, and was told it was based strictly
on tread wear, not age, and is prorated. That is better than a production
tire warranty. So even at 10 or 12 years of age the tire would still be
covered.

I'm no expert here, but I've also been researching tires for our 300G
restoration. From what I could tell looking at them online, Diamond Back
appears to have several choices, but they are quite pricey (around $200
each, from what I remember). Some of them have high speed ratings, and they
have good wear/traction scores.

I think the project that Keith was talking about is for 14" tires. So far,
I've not found a reasonably priced alternative for a wide white in the 15"
size, but I will report if I do, and would be interested to hear anyone
else's recommendation.

there have them? What has your experience been?

I just got off the phone with Diamond Back. The 23575R15 wide white Keith
mentions is a "project" that seeks to make a tire that looks like a bias ply
but be radial in construction. It needs to go through all kinds of testing
once they make it (they haven't yet) and I don't want to be a guinea pig
tester for them. Besides, they will be pricey. Is this American Classic a
good reliable tire?

Hi Gang,

I just talked to Bill Chapman at Diamond Back Tires. I was looking for an
update on the 235-75R14 tire project. He is focusing on a new 225-75R14 at
the moment, and in the spring he is moving on to the 235-75R15, and then to
the 235-75R14 in the fall. His current projection has the 235-75R14
available "by the end of 2012".

Thought you'd like to know where things stand.
