Re: [Chrysler300] 300F bellhousing

All:
The engine and bell housing were painted together at the engine plant, as
Don has stated. The transmission would meet up with the engine at the
Jefferson Assy. Plant. I respectfully disagree that the Steve Albu car looks
like the tranny was black. I think there would be a lot more black paint
around the pan bolts if that were the case. The bell housing does look like
it originally was largely covered with the engine paint in that particular
car. Most I have seen had more of an overspray on the third or so of the
bell housing next to the engine, with the remainder still bare aluminum.
That is the way I did my car.

Hi to all:

Based upon the photos John Hertog (Yes, Bob Jasinski, he's still very much

with us.) took of Steve Albu's totally original 300F, the tranny was
black. Much of the paint has worn off the bottom but still there is
evidence it
was originally black.

It seems to vary quite a lot. Some are all black, and some are partial. I
guess it depended on who was painting and on what shift. It was painted
with the bellhousing bolted to the engine.

Is the transmission bell housing painted black, like the engine, on a
300F?
Or is it supposed to be aluminum color...

Engine and trans were out of the car when I bought it, but the bell
housing,
upon cleaning, has some black paint on it, but not all over it...is this
maybe just overspray assuming it was bolted in place when the engine got
painted at the factory?

Thank you!
