Re: [Chrysler300] Universal Joint Star

Hi, there are two different size u-joints on the common MoPars of the era. If I remember correctly one is 2-1/8 across and the other about 2-5/8. Or something close to that. The original 64 Chrysler's should have the smaller size yoke. You've probably got a later model center section with a sure grip, perhaps a 742 or 489 casting. Years ago Lakewood made an adapter joint with both sizes so if you changed your dif you didn't have to modify the driveshaft; the adapter joint was less money. Although you can probably still find that special U-joint you might want to spend a few more dollars and have a driveshaft shop slice off the end of your driveshaft and replace it with the larger end that matches the larger size on the pumpkin. In the long run it will save you time and aggravation of trying to locate the oddball Lakewood adapter joint in the future. While you're at the driveshaft shop they can also eliminate the ball and grunion on the front. Hmmm; at that point just make a new shaft with a larger stronger diameter.
