RE: [Chrysler300] Mopar Battery in Australia

The smaller of the two sizes identify a group 24 (N50EX) and the larger
(N70EX) a group 27. Our 300s ('56-'65) )would take the group 27 (N70EX).
Make sure the post configuration is the D type. Remove the Exide label and
put on a Mopar label and you'd have a nice looking, very durable battery I'd
say. Definitely worth considering. I wonder if they're available in the
states?

I saw an Exide battery here in Australia that still comes with six red caps.
Must be using old moulds or something. The one I saw was suitable for
Toyoya Landcruiser and I think was standard size for at least the 300C of
mine. Go to http://www.exide.com.au/battery-range/passenger-4wd/EXTREME

However, it may not be available in the US so this may be of passing
interest only.

It has lugs on to mount the rope carry handles. The rope handles can be
easily removed and I suppose the lugs could be cut off to make a pretty good
replica at a standard heavy duty battery price. But when I get around to
needing one I will probably buy a better quality maintenance free type
recommended to me by a specialist battery shop that can handle longer
periods of sitting between starts.

Cheers

Mark,

That's a great idea, I'll have to try it with my new NAPA battery, I've got
some extra vent caps I've collected over the years. Goers has a fake tar
top looking rubber cast piece that lays across a modern flush top group 27,
the type that have recessed gang vents. He had one on his battery in the
car he had in Monterey. In order to conceal the thing and make it look
real, you have to be using the hold down that goes all around the perimeter
of the battery, not the across-the-top type as on the later letter cars.
Goers does not furnish the vent caps however, you have to come up with them
on your own. I have the stickers.

I bought one of those gel batteries from Antique Auto Battery about four
years ago. Paid $255. This summer, it started to lose it umph. I replaced it
with a battery from East Penn Mfg (DEKA batteries) where my wife works. (850
CCA). It's the type with a flat top and two rectangular vent caps. I pried
off the caps, and inserted the red caps from my Antique battery into the six
holes. I had to file off the threads from the red caps so they fit into the
holes. I filed just enough off to make it a snug friction fit. I removed the
DEKA sticker from the side of the battery. I bought one of those stickers
with the forward look arrow and Mopar on it, and placed it on the visible
side of the battery. Those who have seen my car in Lake George know that it
looks almost as good as an original. If you're interested in seeing pics, I
can take some and send them to you tonight.

i Group,

I just lost my correct looking " Mopar gel battery" due to my painter trying
to
ither jump start or charging it with a standard 40 amp charger.

I am not sure that I want to replace it with another gel battery with the
orrect looking casing - $314 with shipping!

I checked the new batteries at my local Chrysler dealer and they now just
have a
arge Mopar sticker on the exposed side - No Thanks!

Does anyone have any suggestions for a new battery source that looks at
least
omewhat correct?
