Re: [Chrysler300] AGAIN: 300H ball joint socket

   Paul,

What works real well is a 3/4" air impact. There has to be a force vertical to hold the socket down but they do come loose with less brute force this way. This will kill the tool warranty and will not work with any 1/2" gun I have. I have not wiped out any sockets yet.

Hope you set the new ones in place with a coat of Never Seez.

Just performed this surgery on my 300F, both ball jpints use the big socket, abour $50.00 from my local tool supplier. Best removed while Control arm is on the car as they require a lot op leverage to break they loose. I used a 3/4 drive breaker bar with a 6 foot hysdaulic jack handle over it for additional leverage, even then the veins were showing in my forehead as the ball joint eased its way loose. Fortuneately I have a hoist so the work was performed at waist level with both feet planted firmly on the floor.

Would not a 300H have the smaller ball joints like the rest of the short wheelbase (SWB) cars? The C-3560 tool is indicated for SWB cars in the '60 manual. LWB cars take the larger ball joint.

  My sockets are S-K brand # 84688 (marked 1-7/8), and 84689 (marked 2-1/8)

I used the larger one on my G (LWB.) The smaller matches up to some NORS ball joints I have on the shelf that came with a '62 Newport (SWB). Measuring across the "flats" on the top of the small ball joint I get about 1-7/8. You could measure your ball joints to be sure.

After viewing the site linked to you by Bob Jasinski, I would say that OTC
8033 is NOT what you want. It is for A-body cars (Valiants, Dusters,Darts).
The OTC 8034 looks like the socket I have for my H.
I'm no expert, so please continue to investigate!
