Has less to do with today's fuels than how you operate your car.  If you drive it around the block occasionally, idle it a lot, or don't really let it warm up much,  use a hotter plug.  If you work it a bit with open throttle at operating temp (several miles of driving), then the colder plug is appropriate.  The heat range of a plug relates to the rate at which heat is dissipated from the ceramic tip of the spark plug.  If that tip runs too hot the spark plug can act as a glow plug and cause combustion to occur before there is a spark, thus possibly destructive detonation (uncontrolled burning) might be the result.
